Nut butters can be really expensive for a all natural sugar free one. I eat so much of it I needed to find a cheaper way of supplying my addiction.
I kept seeing all over instagram people using homemade nut butters and I thought I’d give it a go. I was surprised how easy they are to make. Shop for offers on nuts and make it even cheaper.
Below is how to make the delicious butters.
Warm the nuts in the oven for 5 minutes on a low heat about 150ºc.
Put into a food processor and blend. Takes about 5-10 minutes to get to a point where it starts to release its oils. Keep stopping the mixer and stirring.
It will start to come together almost like dough but leave it mixing. I usually walk off and leave it at this point to carry on. It’s a bit like watching paint dry.
The more you mix the runnier it will be. I like mine easy to drizzle.
You can use most nuts if not all. So far I have tried almond, cashew, pecan and hazelnut. I wasn’t a fan of cashew I’m not sure I mixed it enough but I love hazelnut and pecan.
I use the nuts still in the brown skins. I think it adds flavour and colour to my butters.
Hazelnut goes perfectly with some dark chocolate. You will feel like you are eating Nutella.
Have a go and see for yourself!
